DAVID KAMANZI

David is passionate about street children, himself a survivor from living on the streets of Mbarara, Western Uganda, from the time he was 9 years old until he was 18. His parents were imprisoned during the persecution of Christians by Idi Amin’s regime – this left David and his siblings to fend for themselves.

To survive, his fellow street children became ‘family’, making the life bearable. Eventually, David was taken in to the home of a local pastor and treated like family.

It was through this personal experience that David came to understand the needs of children living on the street and to value the centrality of a loving family home as an instrument of healing and transformation

At TOF Uganda, we adhere to strict standards of integrity as reflected in accountability for operations and finances to our board, partners and friends.

ESTHER

Esther is an amazing woman with a passion for young girls sold into prostitution at tender ages. Originally from Rwanda, her parents were brutally killed in the bloody genocide that claimed lives of 800,000 people. Esther survived but found her herself abandoned, alone and trapped into a life of sexual slavery for survival by a close relative who was supposed to have cared for her.

She fled and settled in nearby Uganda after her uncle intended to sell her off in exchange for cows. After school, she joined Youth with a Mission (YWAM) where David, now her husband, met her.

It is out of this value of love that (Uncle) David and his lovely wife, (Aunt) Esther, founded ‘Enju Y’Amatsiko’ or Home of Hope, which was later, called Home of Love and Dreams (HOLD) which has been a rescue centre for helpless children and abandoned babies.
